Magnetic Attachment to SmallRig Phone Cages/Cases
The VND filter is designed for quick and secure magnetic attachment to compatible SmallRig phone cages or cases that feature a 67mm magnetic filter adapter. Ensure your phone cage/case has the necessary magnetic adapter (e.g., ID 4585, 4587, 4993, 5010, 5171) installed.
- Align the SmallRig VND filter with the magnetic filter adapter on your phone cage or case.
- The magnets will automatically snap the filter into place, providing a secure connection.

Installation on 67mm Camera Lenses
For use with traditional camera lenses, the included threaded adapter is required.
- Screw the threaded adapter onto the front of your 67mm camera lens until it is finger-tight.
- Align the SmallRig VND filter with the magnetic threaded adapter. The filter will magnetically attach to the adapter.

Note: Phone cases/cages and magnetic filter adapters (if not included with your phone accessory) are sold separately.

Adjusting the Neutral Density
The SmallRig VND filter allows you to adjust the amount of light entering your camera lens, ranging from ND64 to ND400 (6 to 9 stops of light reduction).
- Once the filter is securely attached, gently rotate the outer ring of the filter.
- Observe your camera's live view or viewfinder to see the effect of the dimming.
- Rotate the ring clockwise to increase the ND effect (darker) and counter-clockwise to decrease it (brighter).
- The filter features hard stops at the MIN and MAX rotation points to prevent over-adjustment and ensure consistent results.

Kusamalira
Proper care and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your SmallRig VND filter.
- Kuyeretsa: Use the provided cleaning cloth or a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth to gently wipe the filter surfaces. For stubborn smudges or fingerprints, use a specialized lens cleaning solution applied to the cloth, not directly to the filter.
- Posungira: Always store the filter in its carrying box when not in use to protect it from dust, scratches, and impacts.
- Kusamalira: Avoid touching the glass surfaces directly with your fingers. Hold the filter by its metal frame.
- Zachilengedwe: Keep the filter away from extreme temperatures, high humidity, and corrosive chemicals.

- Vignetting (Darkening at corners):
While this filter significantly reduces vignetting, it cannot guarantee its complete absence in all shooting conditions and camera settings (e.g., very wide-angle lenses, specific focal lengths, or extreme filter rotation). If vignetting occurs, try slightly adjusting the filter's rotation or zooming in slightly if possible. - 'X' Cross Pattern:
The SmallRig VND filter is designed to eliminate the 'X' cross pattern. If you observe this pattern, ensure the filter is correctly installed and not rotated beyond its hard stops. If the issue persists, it might indicate an extreme angle of light or a faulty unit (though rare). - Filter Not Attaching Securely:
Ensure both the filter and the magnetic adapter (or threaded adapter) are clean and free of debris. Verify that you are using a compatible 67mm magnetic filter adapter or a 67mm threaded camera lens.

- Balance Exposure: When using the VND filter, remember to adjust your camera's ISO and aperture first, then fine-tune exposure with the filter's rotation.
- Check for Color Shift: While modern VND filters minimize color shift, it's good practice to check your white balance after adjusting the filter, especially at higher ND values.
- Long Exposure Photography: This filter is excellent for achieving long exposure effects in bright conditions, such as smoothing water or blurring clouds. Experiment with shutter speeds to find the desired effect.
- Kupanga Makanema: Use the VND filter to maintain a cinematic shutter angle (e.g., 1/50s or 1/60s for 24fps or 30fps respectively) even in bright sunlight, allowing for natural motion blur in your footage.
