Setup and Surface Preparation

Proper surface preparation is crucial for optimal adhesion and durability of the Color Coat. Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Yeretsani Pamwamba: Thoroughly clean the surface to be coated with a suitable cleaner, such as SEM Soap or SEM Plastic & Leather Prep. Ensure all dirt, grease, oil, and contaminants are removed. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely.
  2. Scuff the Surface: For best adhesion on rigid plastics and vinyl, lightly scuff the surface with a fine-grit abrasive pad (e.g., red scuff pad) or 400-600 grit sandpaper. This creates a mechanical bond.
  3. Adhesion Promoter (Optional but Recommended): For difficult-to-adhere plastics or vinyl, apply a thin, even coat of SEM Plastic Adhesion Promoter or SEM Vinyl Prep. Allow to flash off according to product instructions.
  4. Kuphimba: Mask off any areas not intended for coating using automotive-grade masking tape and paper.
  5. Mpweya wabwino: Ensure adequate ventilation in the work area. Use appropriate personal protective equipment, including a respirator, gloves, and eye protection.
  6. Kutentha: Apply in a well-ventilated area when air and surface temperatures are between 60°F (16°C) and 90°F (32°C).

Operating (Application Instructions)

Follow these instructions for applying SEM Color Coat:

  1. Gwedezani Chidebe: Shake the aerosol can vigorously for at least one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Continue to shake occasionally during application.
  2. Test Spray: Before applying to the actual surface, test spray on an inconspicuous area or a piece of scrap material to check color match and spray pattern.
  3. Ikani Makoti Ochepa: Hold the can 8-10 inches from the surface. Apply several thin, even coats rather than one heavy coat. Applying heavy coats can lead to runs, drips, and poor adhesion.
  4. Flash Time: Allow 5-10 minutes flash time between coats. The surface should appear dull before applying the next coat.
  5. Number of Coats: Typically, 2-3 light coats are sufficient to achieve full coverage and desired color. Additional coats may be applied for deeper color or increased durability.
  6. Nthawi Yoyanika:
    • Tack Free: Approximately 30 minutes.
    • Handleable: 1 hour.
    • Full Cure: 24 hours.
  7. Konza: After use, invert the can and spray until only clear propellant comes out. This clears the nozzle and prevents clogging.

Kusamalira

Once fully cured, surfaces coated with SEM Color Coat are durable and easy to maintain.

  • Kuyeretsa: Clean the coated surface with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the finish.
  • Chitetezo: For automotive interiors, consider using a UV protectant designed for vinyl and plastic to prolong the life and appearance of the coating.
  • Konzani: Small scratches or scuffs can often be touched up with additional light coats of SEM Color Coat after proper cleaning and preparation of the affected area.
